Galatians

Day 1

Galatia was most likely the area Paul traveled on his first missionary journey.  It was most likely written after the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15).  In my first read through of Galatians this months a few things stood out.  First, the stern tone of the letter. Paul doesn’t mince words. He is direct, bold and confrontational. Second, though Paul is confrontational, his call to return to the Gospel of Grace over seeking to accomplish righteousness through keeping the law is refreshing.  Third, a call to faith alone isn’t a call to live in sin! Chapters five and six point to the need for Spirit filled living over fleshly living.

A verse that stood out to me was Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

This will be the Scripture I seek to meditate on today. Christ lives in me. What a glorious truth. The life I live in this body of death will accomplish righteousness by faith in the Lord WHO abides in me.

Father, help me to live with my heart submissive to the Spirit today. Help me not seek to elevate myself by self righteous accomplishments. Help me live for You and honor You today. May faith work in Love through me.

Obadiah

First read through Obadiah. The prophesy of Edom’s demise for mocking Jerusalem's defeat. The Edomites were descendants of Esau (Jacob’s twin). The Edomites lived across the Jordan southeast of the Dead Sea. They thought they were invincible, but this was foolish pride. The Lord is not mocked. God keeps His promises … blessing those who bless Israel and cursing those who curse Israel (Gen. 12). Edom is visible in the picture.  Edom was located in the hills in the distance.
